We held our wedding reception here with great expectations that they would completely take care of every aspect, as they said they would. We pretty much got completely robbed. They rang the drinks up separately but were taking half empty drink off tables while guests were dancing, the server was late opening so the set up was wrong and he didn't listen to instructions and wouldn't light candles because it was too hot for him, they charged a cake cutting fee and the servers ate the cake at 7 dollars a slice, the staff kept guest gifts of bracelets and cuff links and then said they threw them away "oops, were they expensive??". It was the worst experience and I should have challenged the charges with American Express because they range up unauthorized bottles of wine and we lost probably a few thousand dollars overall. After such a great life event we chose to move on.

Is it Italian is it French Is it American - was trying to figure that out based on the menu - started of with a specialty drink which was way too sweet mentioned it to the waiter in the way I was not happy with it but did not respond to me - started with the Godfather Flatbeard - which has 3 toppings on it was expecting topping not a piece a meat here or there - than moved onto to Tuna was cooked perfectley but somewhat fatty - my friend had the mussels which was very salty - the food is average

It's simple. This is by far the best restaurant in Delray. The service is impeccable and food fresh and fabulous. Try the flat bread pizzas. If Tony the owner is there which is usually always be sure to say hello. He values his customers and will alway take the time to share his recommendations. A great wine list and full bar with any cocktail, fine bourbon, or scotch you could imagine. Great place don't miss it!

At one time, this restaurant "was" top notch in Delray. The ambiance has always been warm and cozy, and even more special if you are fortunate enough to get a table in the wine cellar. The food was above average and over the past 2 years has dropped to average. However, the worst happened about 4 years ago after Joseph (manager) left. The service slowly disintegrated and has consistently remained below average ever since. The passion to care for clients was at its lowest point one night when I was hosting 8 people, service was slow, we were the last customers still finishing desert, and they turned the lights off to send a message that they were closing and we had to leave.

We had a very pleasant experience here. Wine selection is impressive, food was delicious, service was top notch. Ate in the wine cellar room, which is very cool, and quieter than the rest of the restaurant. Will be a repeat customer, highly recommended.

Extremely delicious food! Very tasty. Great service. The tuna was to die for! Definitely recommend to all!

Olio has one of the best rooms for dining I've seen in South Florida. The back wine room is beautiful, with chandeliers and wine cabinets with those little ladders on rails like Lex Luther had in Superman. Food is good, excellent choices for everyone including those seeking healthy options that don't include bone-dry fish with vegetables. Perfect for a romantic evening. Can't think of a better place to go with a significant other.

Fantastic experience! I am an event coordinator together with another member in our BNI (Business Networking International) group in Boca Raton. It is the job of the event coordinators to pick one place per month to hold a social gathering for our group of over 50 members. As an attorney I am no stranger to research and together with the other event coordinator we spent hours studying the reviews for multiple restaurants in Delray Beach to hold our June 2015 monthly social in. What became very clear to me during my research was that if we were going to hold our next social in a restaurant which had no negative reviews, we would never have a next meeting! We settled on Olio because unlike many other locations which I called, they had no problem making a reservation for our group of about twenty without telling me that they will have to limit their menu in order to accommodate our group. Also, John, the bartender and waiter who took my reservation was very nice and professional over the phone, even when I called back and made the poor guy discuss and explain the negative reviews that I had read on Yelp! He assured me that we will have a great experience and he was not lying! First off, the place was very beautiful. We were all pleased with the ambiance. You will have to visit it for yourself to understand. Both John and Michael waited on our group (only 16 showed up) and took perfect care of us. They were extremely attentive and were quick to take care of our group's every order and request. They were both gentlemen and very professional. I ordered the rack of lamb. It is very rare that I take a first bite out of my dinner and have to pause and say Oh My God! My meal was absolutely delicious. You could tell whomever is behind that kitchen door and is sending out the food knows very well what they are doing. Needless to say, all of the members of our group were also very happy with their meals and enjoyed everything from the fresh bred served with spiced olive oil to their main courses and to their coffees after their dinners. When they told me that the owner Tony had showed up, I had to go over shake his hand and congratulate him on his beautiful place and the fantastic food that they serve. He was a very nice gentleman. He told me that he owns another restaurant a few blocks towards the beach on Atlantic. As I was speaking with him I felt bad for him for the negative reviews that I had read about Olio on Yelp which could not be further from our group's experience there. Either way, we took a shot on Olio and they made us look like heroes! Beautiful atmosphere, fantastic food and nice people. I strongly suggest that you try this place for yourself. Go ahead, take a date there. It is the perfect place for it. I plan to visit Olio again soon on dates and with friends. Enjoy.

The experience: we had a reservation for 7:30 - we got to the door and the hostess welcome us - he asked if we had a reservation and we said yes. He then ask for a few minutes to see where to sit us. I asked if we could wait by the bar and he stated that it might be the only place where we might be able to sit - we stated that we had a reservation , he then took us to a table. After that introduction, I was not expecting much from the restaurant.. however I was happily surprise. The bartender came to take our drink order , he was an extremely friendly chap, you could see he was an "old school bartender '' . We place our order and after a while we got our dishes.. the salads are made with very fresh ingredients and they were absolutely fantastic! The salmon flatbread is to die for and the service and atmosphere just got better by the minute! Over all, a great choice is you are in the area.

We FINALLY had the chance to make it here for dinner after walking past this place for 4 years! My husband and I started by sharing the Tuna Crunchy Roll. It was ok, but that's it. Having consumed a LOT of sushi rolls in my lifetime, this just gets an "ok" because of the thickness of the tempura. The ingredients are clearly listed on the menu, but we had no idea the tempura would be so thick, and what's weird is that it was served with wasabi and soy sauce, but no chopsticks. So, how does a person mix the wasabi with the soy? We figured it out, and then ate the pieces with our forks, which just didn't seem right. I really enjoyed the Olio flatbread. If you really like and appreciate a good flatbread crust, you will LOVE what Olio brings to the table! I asked for the flatbread sans olives, but the olives were still added, so I simply picked them off. Overall though, this is one of the best flatbreads in Delray Beach! My husband loved his pappardelle and shrimp entree, and I'm really surprised he finished it. The portion was quite sizable and was seasoned perfectly (yes, I took a bite!). Before dinner I ordered a Corona Light, and the bartender searched and searched and said I got the last one. When I finished it (at the dinner table), he offered me another, but I reminded him that I already consumed the last one. He said he found another, so I went ahead and ordered it. I drink a lot of Corona Light, and what was weird is how bitter this Corona tasted. I don't know if it was because the lime was extra bitter or if the beer was so old that it started going bad. Overall, the menu here is really good, but the place (for whatever reason) is never full (all of the instances when we walked past and also during our own meal last night). I really can't point my finger on the reason why. Service was good, although others who arrived after us were given the opportunity to order well before us. Would I visit Olio again? Yes, but not often. The prices are fairly high, prohibiting my pocketbook from making this a regular restaurant on our list, but I recommend it and would venture in here annually.

This place was mediocre at best. We came on a Wednesday night at 7 pm with a networking group of about 15 people and the restaurant didn't have any one customers in it (a sign?). My fiancé and I ordered 2 glasses of wine each, a caprese salad, a flatbread and veal piccata and our bill was $105. Very expensive for some mozzarella and tomato and basically pizza. The veal piccata was very bland and tough not like typical veal and the flatbread was very salty. Also, the wine tasted very odd, perhaps bad, as if it was opened a few days prior and had just been sitting there. Another odd thing we noticed is the menu was very random. There was flatbreads and pasta (you would think ok italian food) then they throw in potstickers and tuna rolls as well as lamb chops and filet. All over the place! Moral of the story: overpriced and under flavored

When we arrived at the restaurant it was literally empty with the outside having two tables occupied , yet the host asked, almost snobbishly, if we had reservations, I thought that to be a rather odd question considering the outlook for a full house wasn't so good for them; knowing I was dressed in a full gown from the graduation we had been at, I knew my attire couldn't be the reason he was being what I call stuck up . Then we move on to the dining experience.......Customer service ?!?! What happened to the days when "the customer is always right ". I ordered mussels, my hubby to be ordered the pappardelle bolognese, my step son had the meatballs ( he neither complained not complimented his dish and he himself is quit the chef ,with little to no words coming from him, I knew he wasn't enjoying his dish) . Although I really enjoyed the flavor of my mussels ( in fact the flavor was superb), I had a half of a bowl of unopened mussels. I kindly explained to the server the mussels were inedible. After he dissected my plate at the table, he returned and said " the chef and I opened them and they were fine ". Are you kidding me ?! I couldn't believe my ears! Thinking maybe he would bring me the remainder of my meal that I wasn't able to enjoy, back with fresh mussels;not only did he not bring me more mussels he charged us full price and didn't even so much as offer an apology! Here's where it gets better, my hubby to be ate his pappardelle bolognese ( he complained it had a burnt taste to it but kept eating it ), when we returned home he was sick the entirety of the night. This restaurant used to be great! I went there often for many years when I lived close by, I also continue to frequent the owners brothers restaurant ( Joseph's ) which has phenomenal food and top of the line service as does his sons restaurant located directly across the street called Bistro 241 ( which also has a great wine selection) in addition Le boheme another restaurant which I believe is owned by the same family with great food for many years now ! What happened to this place? This is clearly a managment issue ! Sad to see it other than what I know it was and could be! My step son made note that the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night when everything else around it was hopping, hmmm now we know why! I gave Olio two stars because I don't have the heart to give it any less but it's definitely not worth more.

Beautiful restaurant off the avenues beat and path. We walked in at 7:00 and the place was empty. We were the only table seated. The service was great and the food was very tasty. My friend and I shared sea bass in a coconut sauce which was cooked to perfection. My husband loved his Mahi and our friend loved his shrimp curry. The atmosphere was perfect. So why is is empty and I only gave it 3 stars you ask? The bill came to $160 before tip. We ordered 3 bottled waters, 3 salads and 3 entries. Maybe I'm wrong but there are too many other places nearby. Probably for a special occasion only type place.

This restaurant was absolutely delicious. Wonderful service, very kind waitress and caring workers. I had the escargot for an appetizer and they were delicious and different. I've had them in France, but these were herbed and had a very unique and light taste to them. The linguini vongole was also wonderful. A light sauce but super tasty, and very well cooked pasta and clams. Ceasar salad was very good too. A lot of food, all of it very light, so it didn't make me feel bloated as many other meals do. A great restaurant experience. The complimentary bread and olive oil was superb. Cozy interior, medium low/high lighting, a great ambience about it. A shame no one else was in there (until the end of our meal) because it really is delicious! Off the beaten track, but definitely prime time dining!

Not impressed. Made a reservation for Valentine's Day two weeks in advance. I requested a table that was somewhat secluded, and was told that we'd be sitting in the wine room. When we got there, it took them 10 minutes to even address us and pull up our reservation. 10 minutes after that, they yelled from across the restaurant to get our attention and seat us. When we walked over, they tried to seat us at a table that didn't even have 6 inches of room from the tables on either side. When I told the server that I'd been told we would be seated in the wine room, she said "well you'll just have to work with what we've got." We left, and won't be coming back.

Couldn't find a place to eat on the avenue, so we ended up trying Olio at the recommendation of a friend. I was surprised a how empty the place was for a weekend night. The dining area is really well done and the wine selecting impressive. True to our diets, I had seabass and my lady steak...both very good. One observation was that the bar seemed to be more happening than the dining area, but maybe that was because a football game was on?

We love this place. Rico is a wonderful waiter. It is a cosy, neighborhood restaurant, with an outstanding wine list. It's a place where you can have dinner sitting at the bar and be totally comfortable. Recently moved to Delray from Los Angeles, and this has become one of our favorite places. They are renovating and expanding, and hopefully the ambience, service and menu will not be altered. Oh and by the way, we sometimes like to bring our own bottle of California favorites and they are happy to accommodate and taste with us. Love this place.

Finally tried Olio after driving by it all the time. It's a little off the avenue but that is a good thing if you want a less chaotic place. Yes it is cramped. The tables are very close together so on a busy night you will be sitting right next to patrons. The restaurant is very nice and the service was very good. The food is definitely above average and better than most restaurants on the avenue. Had the linguine with clams and seafood fra diavola. Both excellent and the tiramisu was outstanding. Great place

Great service. I photographed an engagement party here last weekend and one whole side of it was used for the private party. The staff was very polite and attentive. Everything ran smoothly and everyone was very satisfied. Food was delicious. I had a teriyaki salmon with mixed veggies and a Caesar salad. Portions were a good size thankfully bc after all the photographing and running around I was certainly hungry! Will definitely head back there on a date night.

I had my birthday party here last year in the Wine room, but just found out they took that away to make more restaurant area..booo...I loved the privacy for a large group. But alas, I am still a fan of the place. Just off the ave, with limited street parking and had to walk a bit (but I am no complainer about walking..coming from a city where you had to walk everywhere) . So, saturday night had drinks somewhere else and got hungry..my friend and i decided we wanted Italian (something I RARELY go out for)..place was not very full, but to their defense it was around 9:30..They brought some warm bread..perfect since I was famished, and a plate of seasoned olive oil..yum. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs..old school..I am always weary of ordering red sauce in a place cause I make a mean red sauce myself. But this was tasty! The pasta was cooked perfectly and the portion was right on. Serve was really good.attentive enough and never had to look around for our waiter which can happen as the night comes to a close at a restaurant. I highly suggest this lace for a cozy dinner for 2 or a group of friends wanting to chat over wine and good food!

One review mentioned it was noisy, well that is the least of their problems. If you want to be able to give a 4 star rating take the suggestion of our Server and arrive In the middle of the week after dinner time and they should be able to handle your requests. DO NOT make a REZ for Friday or Saturday (date night) as they freely admit they can't handle the business. An hour and 45 minutes for entrees is ridiculous with nothing more than, I'm sorry the kitchen is busy. The food was nicely presented but very few places will be able to hold up their food to that long of wait. Especially right off Atlantic ave where there are so many choices and General Managers who know how to handle the dining room when the Kitchen lets them down. Our server was the best part of the evening, not a novice on her job, but her hands seemed to be tied in doing the right thing. Try the bar and see if they deliver before you spend almost a 100 per person. It's NOT that special of a place.

Somehow I think Olio is stacking the deck here. Could it be that they are adding their own reviews? Or having others do it for them? My husband and I stopped into Olio last night. No, we did not have a reservation but it was later in the evening (9:00PM) and the place was relatively empty. After checking us out (looking at us up and down), the hostess sat us. After quite some time, a fellow came by with water. No server yet. We waited and waited, not one server came by. We live in downtown Delray and can not believe the poor service of this restaurant. We could not even catch the eye of any person passing by to take our wine order. Finally we flagged down the fellow that gave us water to have a server come to our table. After another 5 minutes, a server did arrive but acted like he was doing us a big favor. We got a really bad vibe and decided to ditch the place before things really got bad. The food and wine are far too expensive at Olio to be treated like a second class citizen. We have eaten at Olio years ago. The food was okay but no great. Now you can't even get past the bad service to get to the wine and food. With the costs now a days, who needs it? We sure didn't!

  • Thomas M.

I now know why there are so few reviews for Olio. With all due respect to Yelp reviewers this is a younger website. We are young 50 ish and depend on Yelp because we are immature old people who still hang out. This place is the goods. Very nice room with good atmosphere. Twice visited with great results food wise. Service was great both times and the food was top notch both times. If this joint was on "The Avenue" it would be a no brainer. Not cheap, young ones, but great food. The "wine room" as previously mentioned would be a hit for romantic stuff. The tourists won't know what they are missing. Enjoy.....

  • Brian R.

The place has become even more noisy when busy. They need something to deaden the sound in here. The bar is also slower when its crowded, so drinks didn't arrive for 20 minutes, well into our meal. The food is still excellent, but they have to cope with success to get that last star back.

  • Mitchell M.

We had a very good dinner here tonight. Started off with mozzarella cap reuse which was ver good. Marguerita flatbread was excellent, 1/2 roasted chicken was excellent and chicken pail lard very good. Pappardelle was just ok maybe even mediocre. Prices are high about $6 per entree more than you would expect. Desserts need a revamp and are unimpressive.

Olio may be my new favorite restaurant in Delray. I had the pleasure to be seated in the wine room, which if you have not been is an outstanding wine library of sorts near the back entrance of the restaurant. Al dark wood, antiques and rustic tables. Oh and a ton of wine! From the staff to the food all the way to the atmosphere this place is a gem in Delray. Our party of 7 enjoyed some nice scotch from a great selection prior to our meal. For our meal we had a number of bottles of red, of which the names are escaping me. They were delicious and the choices were definitely plentiful. Our meal was spread out well. We weren't rushed and were given as much time as we wanted to just enjoy it. For apps we had the cheese board and two unbelievable flat breads. The Gorgonzola flat bread was out of this world good. I want to eat it again right now. For my meal I had the steak. I am not normally one to order a steak out at dinner. Unless out at a steakhouse, of course. The waiter sold me on it as he told me that they were cut to order in the back and that the flavor was "impeccable". He was right. Get it. It was really just a great quality steak. I didn't try any other meals, but everyone at the table was raving about their pasta's and salmon's, etc. Long and short is just go here. It's worth it!

We ate there over the weekend, and while I can recommend the food - I'm only giving the dining experience 3 stars. Here's why: The restaurant seemed understaffed. There was only one waiter and he was overwhelmed. We had to flag down the host to get the glass of ice we had asked for many many minutes earlier. We never were asked and never received any bread, although all the tables around us did receive it. Did they know I was cutting back on my carbs? I took a long time for our salads to arrive. Maybe not the waiters fault, I think it speaks again to the restaurant not being able to handle a full house. They have a very extensive wine list, I was told 600 selections with 2000 bottles - but again was told they really don't have the wines on the menu and they get substituted regularly. In fact the wine we ordered was not available and we received a substitute. I was not going for the wine so not a big deal. But, not the way to attract those after that special bottle. Our flat bread pizzas were good!

If the weather permits sit outside. It's noisy inside but the food was delightful, wine choices also quite satisfactory. Olio is a fun place for dinner

This is a beautiful restaurant with a magnificent wine room for parties. The only problem is that the food is very mediocre. There is no love in this kitchen. I started with fried smelts that tasted fishy, followed by a very poorly cooked dolphin, which was suppose to be grilled but was broiled. Tasted like rubber. The wait-staff was untrained and indifferent. This is my only and last review. Go Yelp somewhere else.

The ambiance is Fabulous! Too bad the food, service, and pricing are not. This place could be killer... With better food and servers. Went for Valentines day. Thought it was odd that they didn't have any specials on the menu. Ordered a martini to start which I believe the bartender made in a dirty shaker because it definitely had a funky taste (being that it was valentines day I didn't complain just tried to suffer through and figured I'd switch to wine... I didn't have to suffer too long as our server took my half full Martini glass from me before I had finished). As always when eating at a new restaurant - I asked the server for dinner suggestions - pretty sure she had never eaten in the restaurant before. As she read the menu to me - I discounted her opinion (or lack there of) and opted for a shrimp and pasta dish. The food was mediocre at best. The portion of pasta was large but after I ate the 4 shrimp out of the dish - I didn't take the leftovers home. I wanted this place to be great - as it is off the beaten path - but we both were pretty disappointed and agreed we wouldn't return.

Olio is tucked away on a side street off the Avenue. The location is much quieter than the main street and worth a look. The place is beautifully decorated. I thought the front room was comfortable with couches along the wall and soft candle-light. A brick-lined archway frames the bar and the dark wood tables stand out from the large marble tile floor. I was surprised when they took us back into the wine room. I haven't been in a room like that since being in downtown chicago. What a great date place. The bread was hot and the food was really good. The only issue I see is that there are too many options across a variety of tastes and textures to choose from. They have a variety of Tapas, but we had a drink with carpaccio, along with the filet and sea bass. Everything was good, I'll be returning. Note, our server was crap and parking was across the street. Definitely sit in the wine room.

The food was good, but the service was the shining star in this case. We were seated in the wine cellar which was very romantic; however, a little chilly for my date, so make sure to ask ahead of time.

From the wide selections of wines from the different parts of the regions to the incredible tappas and entrees you would be a fool not to try this restaurant at least once in your life. Great atmospher to bring a date, social event, to a private party in the gorgeous wine room. Definitely five stars

Why aren't there more reviews for this place? As far as Delray restaurants go, this is possibly the best place for a romantic date. Sit in the wine room; the ambiance is great, dim lights and shelves of wine with library ladders surround. The location is off of Atlantic so you have to know about it (read: not full of tourists). The food is amazing as well. What a great find!

  • Gordon O.

We picked Olio specifically because it is located a block off the busy Atlantic Ave restaurant strip. It was a little louder inside than we like but we adjusted quickly. Service took a little while to get to us, but once we ordered drinks the flow of the evening was perfect. Their flatbread pizza is the absolute best! A perfect blend of crispy crust and well balanced ingredients. We chose the chicken/pesto/asparagus and it was too much for three of us to finish. The wine list is also excellent, and with a broad selection at many price points. We were stumped and the waiter recommended a surprisingly good Italian red at $45/bottle. Entrees were also excellent, but sadly we had no room for what looked a great selection of desserts. The owner stopped by our table for a few minutes during the meal and it only added to the charm of the evening. This is a restaurant that should be on your list to try.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
